New Transitions

We wish you a Happy New Year. We are excited for this New Year and a new decade. For us 2020 brings big transitions in our ministry and new opportunities.

Grandson Dawson (7), John, Elaine, Son Tim, Son-in-Law Dustin, Daughter Beth, Granddaughter Molly (9)

As we enter our 35th year of ministry in Japan we are also preparing for the major transition this year of relocating to the US and John assuming a new position on the Converge Asia Impact Team. Most everyone knows about these changes and now is the year to implement them. Please pray for the physical preparations and also the changing feelings.

  • Saying Goodbye (for a while) – This month on January 19th we will begin saying official farewells to the Tokyo district of churches at their joint New Year’s worship service.
  • Preparing for our US Tour – In preparing for our Home Assignment from May, letters requesting preferred dates went out to 12 churches, more letters will follow next month.
  • Getting ready to move – This month brings some friends from Rockford Illinois to help us with ministry and preparations to move in a few months. They will also serve as a transportation system by taking several full suitcases of our things to the US when they return. Pray for Byron and Nan who will be with us from January 8-14.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR PRAYER

  1. Thank God for our vacation in the US over Christmas. Beside seeing our family and resting we readied everything on that side of the ocean for the new transitions.
  2. John begins the year with key meetings with Japanese and missionary leaders in person and online. He will also meet with a group of US leaders on a vision trip to Japan. Pray he would be a good listener, network well, and always encourage.
  3. We both continue our mentoring of some leadership couples. Pray for sensitivity and that we would apply gospel truths.
  4. Elaine resumes her classes this month including a card making class on the 18th at the Crossroad church. Pray for preparations as well as every personal relationship.
  5. We both have leadership meetings with the Rengo mission department and a Converge mission meeting this month. Pray that plans to accelerate leadership and church planting would be fulfilled.
  6. On January 30-31 John will be attending the second Church Multiplication Vision Festival national strategy meeting in Kobe, Japan. This time Seima Aoyagi from our CPI Leadership team will attend. Pray that God grants us all bold new visions and courage.
