Japan’s Spiritual Poverty

Japan is recovering from a great disaster but is even more spiritually needy, which is the assessment from the World Compassion Network (WCN) staff after their visit to Japan.

“Japan has suffered a triple punch in the stomach. The 9.0 earthquake was the worst earthquake in 100 years. They actually survived it quite well due to their building codes. The Tsunami however was devastating. Their tsunami protection walls were taken down in a split second when a 30 ft wave of water hit the shore. Thousands were killed and hurt. Hundreds of thousands were made instantly made homeless. Then came the nuclear disaster. This is severely handicapping the relief efforts. No country no matter how sophisticated or wealthy can deal with this triple whammy alone….

We are supporting Christian Relief Assistance Support and Hope (CRASH) because they are representing the churches and pastors of Japan. This where our hearts are focused…. Japan is less than 1% Christian. WCN believes the most important relief we can bring is support to the churches in Japan. Japan may not be poor in comparison to Haiti but they are far more spiritually poor. Please, see this as an opportunity to bring the gospel to Japan through compassion ministry. The American church has an opportunity to make a difference. Japan’s eternity is as stake.” PRAY that indeed help from outside would make also a spiritual difference in the lives of Japanese.
