Leadership Characteristics of Multiplying Churches in Japan

The purpose of this project was to identify through research and describe by analysis the characteristics of leaders that are effectively multiplying churches in Japan. Very little like this has ever been attempted in missiological circles and certainly not in Japan.

Goals and Objectives

1. A list of churches currently multiplying in Japan was developed.

2. Leaders of these multiplying churches along with their leadership roles and functions were determined through a preliminary survey and in-depth personal interviews.

3. The characteristics of these leaders were determined from comparative research.

The direct and indirect results of this research project will be helpful for many in ministry in and out of Japan and directly helpful for the training that occurs in the Church Planting Institute. Besides the focused results of this research will be: case studies of Japanese church leadership, methodological descriptions of reproducing churches, leadership for church multiplication, examples of leadership development for church multiplication, and so on. The results of the research project in Japanese will be used to influence the Japanese church. More work will be done on suggestions are made how to identify similar leaders in other churches, regions and denominational settings and  how to build these characteristics into leaders as part of a training program for multiplying churches.
